Customer TestimonialsJust wanted to take a minute and let you know how much we enjoyed our trips on the Tropical Sun. 1st let me say that you both made us feel like family, very welcomed into your world of fishing. I personally appreciated the way you not only took us fishing but helped me to understand the strategies used to lure these awesome fish to bite. Being an avid salmon fisherman I understand there's much more involved than just going on a boat ride. Once we hooked up and Ryan took control of the rods I was very impressed with his calming but calculated action, Ryan is a real asset to your operation and you should be very proud of the full package you are able to create for your customers. I for one will be calling and booking trips with you on The Tropical Sun every time I visit Kona. Thanks again for the memories that will be with me for eternity!! I'm looking forward to our next hookup of the Great Blue Marlin.
Cathi and Jon Vining,
Our family has had the pleasure of spending many days on the water over the years with Capt. "D". During those many trips we have always enjoyed our time with Dennis and have become good friends. The boats are always clean, well maintained and he goes out of his way to ensure people are comfortable and enjoy their time on the water. Additionally, if you are interested, he is more than willing to teach you how to handle the gear, hook your own fish and be a part of the action. He is a great teacher and has worked with our daughter a few times to help her capture her trophy blue marlin. We tend to target blue marlin and needless to say we have had some incredible days on the water with more than one multiple fish days. Those memories will last a lifetime. Of course we plan to add to those memories and just this week we booked our 2010 trip with Dennis and Ryan on the Tropical Sun. Regardless if you are looking for a comfortable first time big game fishing experience or you are an experienced big game fisherman looking for that trophy blue marlin, we would highly recommend Capt. "D". Grady & Sue Mulbery
I'd like to Thank both you and Matt for a GREAT day of fishing. We truly had a fantastic time out on the Kona waters from the Continental Breakfast to the catching of both Spearfish. I made several fishing trips while on the island and can say BY FAR this was my favorite trip and MOST enjoyable. The boat was a pleasure to spend a day while out fishing. In addition, I'd like to also thank you for the concern that you had in making sure that my wife was comfortable while out on the boat. The ONLY problem that I had was that I only did one trip with you. I'll make sure that next time that I make a trip to the Big Island to schedule a trip with you to go out for the day. Jerry De Leo
Whether you are a serious angler or looking to take your family out for a leisurely day of fishing, you can't go wrong with Captain D. I have been fishing with Captain D for almost 10 years. He is exceptionally knowledgeable on the local Kona fishery, always runs a first class boat and knows how to put you on the fish. Equally important, Captain D is one of friendliest and most positive individual you will ever meet. From the moment you meet him, you feel like you have known him all of your life. Last year I took my 7 year old son fishing with Captain D for the first time. It was his first trip fishing in the ocean. He caught 17 tuna on a half-day trip and had the time of his life! He now has a mounted yellowfin tuna in his bedroom and couldn't be happier. Our next trip is in just a few days and we both can't wait. It's certainly one of the major highlights of our trip to Kona. If you are thinking about fishing while on the Big Island you have to go fishing with Captain D. Greg Connor
When we first came to Hawaii 12 years ago, we wanted it to be something special in our lives. We got married and honeymooned on the islands. We met the diverse people and cultures that give the state its unique character and charm. We learned and felt the meaning of Aloha from every islander we met in our travels. On Hawaii, in the town of Kona, at the Honokohau Harbor, we met the special person who represents all that is good about Hawaii, Captain Dennis Cintas. We love to fish and be on the water and a trip with Captain Dennis Cintas, or Mr. Aloha, highlights everything that is special about Hawaii or a vacation in general. Dennis is a master on the cultures of Hawaii, and his hospitality on the boat make every trip we take a memorable occasion. Dennis and his crewmates work very hard for their customers. This was obvious to us on our first trip. On that February morning, many boats left the harbor and by 2 pm only 2 Blue Marlin had been hooked and lost by the fleet that day. Dennis kept working, moving and consulting with other captains, at 2:30 pm his efforts were rewarded with a triple hookup of Pacific Blue Marlin. Two marlin were brought to the boat and one kept to take to port. During our 12 yearly trips, we have caught most big game species that inhabit or pass through Hawaiian waters. On one September visit, as promised by Dennis, we caught Tuna (Ahi) until our arms, legs and backs were sore. The fishing is great, but the hospitality and friendship of Dennis is better. We love the sights of Hawaii, but what lures us back each year is the smile, handshakes, high fives and hugs of Captain Cintas. Denise & Ron Rezabek – Grand Island, New York
Aloha Captain Dennis! Yet again our fishing experience doesn't disappoint! Since we started coming out to Kona seven years ago it just never ceases to amaze us how thrilling and addictive the fun of fishing off the coast is. Of course with your very experienced and fun loving hand at the helm, that is no surprise. Everyone always asks why we go to the same place year over year and we always say for "Captain Dennis and the fishing". We'd have it no other way with any other captain. We have caught so many species and seen so much beauty in those waters, and anybody who hasn't been is missing out on one of mother nature's best work with the best guide and fisherman on the water. The most unfortunate thing is when we have to leave and start the long countdown 'till we can do it again. So here we are counting down again longing for the tuna tower, the laughs the fabulous friendship we now have and of course the fish! Thanks for everything every time.
Mahalo,
Dennis is a most gracious host aboard a great vessel. All of the equipment is the best, and we usually catch fish. Will be back next year for my 6th trip with Dennis and his boat. I have followed him, not the boat, each year. George F. Black
The most important activity on all of our trips to the Big Island of Hawaii is a fishing trip on the Krista with Captain Dennis Cintas. His knowledge of the Kona Coast combined with top of the line equipment will help put the most experienced angler on the fish they want. Dennis is also the perfect Captain for first time anglers. He is great with kids and his positive attitude will make it a fun day for everyone. Whether it is catch and release Marlin or fresh Mahi-Mahi and Ahi for the dinner table fishing on the Krista is the best! Scot McClone and Family
I am quite happy to let you, and all of the visitors to your site, know of our positive experiences with you at the helm. You'll recall that many, many years ago, (and many more fish ago too), my good friend Bo Courtney & I were in Kona to celebrate his 30th birthday. We scraped together money all year long with the hopes of fishing and golfing in Kona. The girls, golf and fun were all spectacular, however we had a decidedly different experience aboard the Janet B - a boat we found on the internet stateside & which may now very well be at the bottom of the sea due to poor maintenance and is probably functioning as a deep water refuge for a trevally or a grouper! In my experience with the Janet B - this may have been the only way that boat could have caught fish! Once back to Honokohau harbor, and safely ashore from the unproductive five hour "high speed" troll recommended by the captain, Bo and I walked dejectedly along the harbor after a complete waste of money. Many of the boats were back from their day at sea, and all with their flags flying proudly of tuna and mahi mahi and billfish - and most were chartered for the balance of our time on Kona. We were pointed in your direction and as our luck would have it, you were free the next day. There was something about our mutual San Diego connection, your sympathetic and encouraging words and our unwillingness to let the Janet B ruin our trip - we chartered your boat and the rest is history. Since then, Bo and his wife have made trips to Kona and have fished exclusively with you. I've had the good fortune of introducing my business partner to you and we now hold successful annual fishing tournaments for our clients that you have been so kind to arrange and provided us with direction on. We could not have done these without you! We've shared malassadas on fishing trips with your Mom, and always get to the Islands in time to celebrate your wedding anniversary in May. Keltie and I have enjoyed seeing you as a proud papa and hearing stories of the successes of your children. I've even enjoyed your Escabische recipe! What does this all mean? We simply could not have "Tight Lines" without the tight bond that has been forged on so many trips with you. You have become a good friend, and we are looking forward to the next time out! And Thank You for having an opening so many years ago! Tight lines!
